ShinEtsu

Shin-Etsu Chemical is a leading Japanese manufacturer of pharmaceutical excipients since 1962, focused on the production of cellulose ethers and esters. Over the years, Shin-Etsu Chemical has become a global benchmark in high-quality excipients. Its cellulosic derivatives play a key role across multiple areas of pharmaceutical technology. Depending on the grade, cellulose ethers and esters can be used as binders in immediate-release formulations and as sustained-release matrices in both capsules and tablets. They also function as thickeners in liquid formulations. Shin-Etsu also stands out for excipients such as low-substituted hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (L-HPC), which improves formulation consistency and stability, as well as low- and high-viscosity hypromellose grades (HPMC), methylcellulose (MC), and HPMC derivatives such as acetate succinate (HPMC-AS) and phthalate (HPMC-P). The latter are particularly useful for aqueous and organic enteric coatings and are also used in solid dispersions to enhance the bioavailability of poorly soluble APIs.
